Dynamic Watermarking Explained

Learn how Invoice For Me stamps PDFs on-the-fly with recipient info to deter leaks.

Dynamic Watermarking Explained

Dynamic watermarking is one of Invoice For Me's most powerful anti-fraud tools. When enabled, the server stamps a unique watermark into every page of the PDF before serving it — on every single request.

What's Included in the Watermark

Each page is visually stamped with:

  • "CONFIDENTIAL" in large diagonal text
  • The recipient's IP address (e.g., "IP: 198.51.100.42")
  • The exact timestamp of their access (ISO 8601 format)

The text is rendered at 40% opacity in a light gray, rotated 45°, centered on each page.

Why Dynamic?

Because the watermark is added in real-time by the server (not hardcoded into the document file), it contains fresh information every time the link is accessed. If someone screenshots or re-shares the document, the watermark reveals exactly who leaked it, from which IP, and when.

Is the Original File Modified?

No. The original PDF stored in your account is never modified. The watermark is applied in-memory on the server each time the document is fetched. The stored file stays clean.

Enabling Watermarking

  1. Open a document and click Share Securely
  2. Toggle Watermark PDF on
  3. Click Copy Link or Send Email

All future accesses to that document's secure link will receive a watermarked version.
