Automatic Late Fees

Charge late fees automatically when invoices go unpaid past the due date.

Automatic Late Fees

Invoice For Me can automatically apply late fees to invoices that go unpaid past their due date, encouraging timely payment.

Setting Up Late Fees

  1. Go to Settings → Late Fees
  2. Toggle Auto Late Fees on
  3. Configure the fee:
- Fee Type: Flat amount (e.g., $25) or Percentage (e.g., 1.5% of the invoice total)

- Grace Period: Number of days after the due date before the first late fee is applied (e.g., 3 days)

- Frequency: How often the fee recurs — one-time, weekly, or monthly

- Max Applications: Maximum number of times the fee can be applied to a single invoice (e.g., 3 times)

How It Works

After the grace period passes on an unpaid invoice, Invoice For Me automatically:

  1. Adds a late fee line item to the invoice
  2. Updates the invoice total
  3. Sends an email to the client notifying them of the late fee
  4. Repeats at the chosen frequency until the invoice is paid or the max is reached

Example

You set a 2% late fee with a 5-day grace period, applied monthly, max 3 times. An unpaid $1,000 invoice would accrue:

  • Day 5: +$20 late fee (total: $1,020)
  • Day 35: +$20 late fee (total: $1,040)
  • Day 65: +$20 late fee (total: $1,060) — max reached, no further fees

Per-Invoice Override

You can disable late fees on a specific invoice by opening it and toggling off Auto Late Fee. You can also manually add or remove a late fee line item at any time.

Note: Check your local regulations regarding late fee limits. Some jurisdictions cap the percentage or total amount of late fees that can be charged.
